The front entrance of your home is an important, but often neglected area of your property but a few easy upgrades are all it needs to give it real wow factor. If you’re trying to sell your home, improving the exterior is a great way to give it increased curb appeal, or if you intend to stay in your home a while longer, a home entrance makeover simply makes it a nicer place to come home to every day. Take a look at your home entrance – has it become a bit neglected over the last few months? Thankfully it doesn’t take much to make it a home you’re proud of once more - makeover your home's entrance with these tips.

Power washing

The path that leads up to your door or your front step needs to be cleaned by a power washer at least once a year to remove dirt and grime build up – you will be amazed at the difference this can make to creating a brighter, cleaner entrance to your home. If you don’t want to tackle this task yourself, you can hire someone to do it for you.

Front door

Your front door is often the focal point of your home, and therefore if your current door style is looking worse for wear and in need of an upgrade, perhaps it’s time you browsed our collection of front door styles for some inspiration? Whether you want a traditional mahogany door or a colourful GRP composite door style, we can help.

If your current door is in good condition and just needs a bit of TLC to restore it, a warm damp cloth will be all you need to clean the dirt and grime from a GRP composite door. A few coats of paint or varnish on your mahogany door will help to protect it once more from the elements.

Don’t forget about the necessary accessories on your front door – the number, knocker, handles, and letter boxes are all ways you can personalise your front door and put your own unique twist on your home’s entrance.

Lighting

Effective lighting for your home exterior can be a great way to really add a contemporary edge to your exterior style. Lighting around your front door in the form of wall sconces or overhead porch lighting adds a sophisticated touch, or subtle pathway illumination is both a practical and eye-catching lighting addition to your home’s entrance.

You also need to think about how your front door entrance influences the lighting in your hallway. If your hallway lacks a lot of natural light, you might want to consider adding sidelights to your front door or glazed glass panels to your door design to allow more light through.

Colour

Adding colour to your homes entrance can be done by having a brightly coloured front door (in fact, our range of GRP doors come in a range of colours so you can choose your favourite), or by adding pots of colourful flowers to brighten up your front door. Having flowers at your entrance immediately gives the impression that your home is a well-tended and welcoming place, and it’s such a simple change to make.
